Mid-Term Review meeting- 14/09/2010- Limerick, Ireland  -  06/28/2010

The Mid-Term Review meeting of the GASMEMS Network with the representative of the EC-REA is due to take place in Limerick, Ireland, on September 14, 2010.

It will be coupled with the 2nd meeting of the GASMEMS Supervisory Board, on September 13, 2010, organised as well on the University campus.

Death of Carlo Cercignani  -  01/11/2010

We are sad to announce that Professor Carlo Cercignani passed away on January 7th, 2010.
Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Milano (Politecnico di Milano) and Member of the "Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei", he was one of the most respected scientists in kinetic theory, author of numerous books and articles in that field.

We present our condolences to his family and close collaborators.

1st Supervisory Board meeting- September, 14th of 2009  -  09/29/2009

Following its 2nd Executive Board meeting, the GASMEMS Supervisory Board members met for the 1st time in Eindhoven, on September 14, 2009.

This meeting was the occasion to meet for the 1st time with some of the partners, and most particularly with Associated Partners (AP) level 3, Brooks Instruments and Neroxis SA (ex-Silsens), who presented the research fields and industrial products of their companies.

The recruited ESR were represented by Alice Vittoriosi (ESR14-FzKa Karlsruhe).

Prof. Masahiro Kawaji, from the University of Toronto, also participated to the meeting by video-conference, as non-European oustanding scientist; he could bring his expertise and participate to the discussion on the activties and scientific orientations of the Network.

Publication of the Gasmems Course Catalogue  -  01/16/2009

The training is balanced between continuous training-through-research and additional training including 4 levels for ESR and 3 levels for ER.

 

The additional training for ESR includes 4 levels. Each ESR will receive:

  • advanced training (typically 45 hours) in one of the 3 domains corresponding to the 3 Groups:
    • Modelling and Simulation (M&S)
    • Experimental Techniques and Measurements (E&M)
    • Materials and Manufacturing (M&M)
  • basic training (typically 2 × 30 hours) in the 2 complementary fields (e.g. E&M and M&M);
  • In total, scientific and technical training: 105 hours
  • short training courses on Industrial aspects and Applications (I&A), through short visits planned in the student path in labs of industrial partners and seminars given by external experts during workshops;
  • and complementary skills training detailed below.

 

The additional training for ER includes 3 levels. Each ER will receive:

 

  • advanced training (typically 30 hours) in the main domain of his/her project (e.g. E&M),
  • training on Industrial aspects and Applications (I&A),
  • and complementary skills training adapted to his/her personal profile.

 

The advanced and basic parts of the additional training are provided through specific modules. These modules will be available in

  • the 3 summer schools : 3x15 h= 45 h
  • the 3 workshops : 3x12h= 36 h
  • regular courses provided by the partners institutions: 25h

Kick-off Meeting - INSA Toulouse, 13 & 14 November 2008  -  02/25/2009

The Kick-off meeting of the project was successfully held on last 13 and 14 November in Toulouse, bringing together 24 persons representing the 17 partners of the network.

Key issues discussed during the meeting:

  • Overview of the project: presentation of the objectives, partners, network structure, Work Packages, management structure and responsibilities, overall schedule of the project  
  • Financial issues: eligibility of expenses, types of activities, reporting and payments, justifications, audits and reviews, guidelines for a sound management
